Dustin Johnson debuted the new TaylorMade Tour Preferred MB irons at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions at Kapalua, Hawaii on 3 January. TaylorMade states that Tour Preferred MB is a pro player’s blade, precisely forged of soft, 1025 carbon steel with a classic and compact shape and a thin top-line and minimal offset. The sole has minimal camber.
The company has also introduced the Tour Preferred MC irons with a shallow ‘muscle cavity’ to boost MOI and the Tour Preferred CB irons, a full-fledged cavity back that maintains the shape of a player’s iron and the look of a blade when set-up behind the ball. All three models are offered in 3-iron through to PW, feature a hand-polished satin nickel-chrome finish and are equipped with KBS Tour steel shafts and tour velvet grips.
For TaylorMade Sean Toulon, Executive Vice President commented, “We don’t believe you can call yourself a great iron company unless you create irons that great players want to play. Irons that meet a Tour pro’s requirements for look, feel, sound and workability. That’s why these clubs bare the name Tour Preferred.”
Dustin Johnson finished tied sixth at 14 under in the Hyundai Tournament of Champions which was won by namesake Zack Johnson at 19 under.
