ECCO® GOLF ambassador, Fred Couples, blew away the field on Sunday at the SAS Championship to power to a six-shot victory.

The 1992 Masters champion, who turned 63 earlier this month, carded a remarkable 12 birdies in his final 14 holes, including birdies on each of his last seven holes.

Couples started the day on eight-under-par, searching for his 14th senior victory, and his 12-under-par final round proved to be more than enough to secure his first title since June 2017.

Wearing ECCO BIOM HYBRID 3, Couples shot his lowest career round, an incredible three shots lower than his age. Commenting on his final round triumph, Couples said:  “Today was just an unreal day. It’s easy to say because we’re standing here, but I think it’s the best round I’ve ever played,”

“I’ve shot 58 and 59 before, never in a tournament, but today I just was trying to stay two or three ahead because I knew I could birdie at any given time,” he added.

Jesper Thuen, responsible for tour sponsorship at ECCO GOLF, commented: “It was brilliant to watch Fred at his very best this week in North Carolina. It was a real education watching the final round, and to shoot lower than your age at 63 is quite spectacular.”

Couples played ECCO BIOM HYBRID 3 this week, a design which features hard-wearing ECCO leather uppers and a waterproof GORE-TEX® construction that keeps feet dry and comfortable in all conditions.

In addition to Couples, ECCO GOLF shoes are worn in competition around the world by Caroline Masson, Lydia Ko, Nanna Koerstz Madsen, Erik van Rooyen, Doc Redman, Niklas Nørgaard Møller, and Thomas Bjørn, among others. For further information about ECCO GOLF, please visit golf.ecco.com.
