FootJoy brand ambassador, Henrik Stenson rounded-off his season in sensational fashion, capturing both the Tour Championship and lucrative season-long FedEx Cup. The charismatic Swede, who has been the most consistent golfer in the world over the past 3 months led from start to finish, overhauling a field that included an impressive eight FJ loyalists amongst the top 10. On the other side of the Atlantic, at the 70° Open d’Italia Lindt at Golf Club Torino, another FJ ambassador, Julien Quesne produced a stunning back-nine of 31 on Sunday to walk away with his second European Tour title and complete a monumental week for the market-leading brand.
As the week commenced at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Stenson knew he was one of 5 players that could walk away with the lucrative FedEx Cup should he claim victory at the Tour Championship. From the very first tee-shot on Thursday it was clear the Swede looked incontrol of his game. Flawless iron play and precision putting led to a dominant opening round of 6 under-par 64, and from there Stenson was never to be caught, despite some testing moments on Sunday. Stenson was chased all the way on Sunday by an abundance of fellow FJ staff players including, Steve Stricker, the PGA Tour’s rising young star Jordan Speith and 2011 US Open Champion, Webb Simpson. After a world-class up-and-down on the 16th hole and an equally magnificent shot into the 17th from the fairway bunker, Stenson was afforded a relatively stress-free walk up the final hole to claim the his second Playoff event in three weeks and more importantly the season-long FedEx Cup title and $10 million jackpot. The win also moves him up to a career-high 4th position in the Official World Golf Rankings.
On the European Tour at the 70° Open d’Italia Lindt, it was to be another victory for an FJ ambassador as Julien Quesne produced some fantastic golf on Sunday to secure his second European Tour title. Like Stenson, the Frenchman favoured FJ ICON golf shoes as he overhauled a packed field with a stunning back-nine of 31 for a final round of 67 and a hard-fought 1 shot victory. The winner’s cheque for €250,000 lifts Quesne to 41st on The Race to Dubai – the top 60 qualify for the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. The win also sees him move inside the top 140 in the Official World Golf Rankings from 229th.
“Henrik has undoubtedly showcased his Mark of a Player characteristics throughout the PGA Tour Playoff series and with two victories is richly deserving of becoming the first European player to raise the coveted FedEx Cup title,” noted Russell Lawes, FootJoy Marketing Manager. “On behalf of everyone at FJ I would like to congratulate him on leading home a field awash with players choosing to compete in our market-leading shoes and gloves, in what was a stellar PGA Tour season-finale for the brand. In Italy, Julien also demonstrated his ability to perform under the most intense pressure and we are delighted that his talent saw him through to a second career European Tour title in Italy.”
