Fourteen Golf launch across Europe

Are these the best golf clubs you’ve never seen before? Japanese brand Fourteen Golf are set to make an impact in the UK and beyond.

Fourteen may be the most established golf brand that you’ve never heard of. While the brand has seen success on the PGA Tour, including major victories, over the years with their driving irons and wedges, they have never had a strong presence across the UK and Europe. That’s about to change as it’s the latest brand to be added to the Over The Top Golf Portfolio.

Founded in 1981 by accomplished amateur golfer Takamitsu Takebayashi, he felt compelled to create the ideal set of clubs because nobody else had or could. His aim was to create the best set of 14 clubs for every golfers. Originally founded as a design studio to design clubs for other manufacturers, they eventually created their own equipment.

Fourteen were the first company to understand the importance of CG in a golf club. They were the first company to place weight near the top lie of a wedge to help control trajectory. But despite the forward thinking designs of the company, they also follow a philosophy of Functional Beauty, where their equipment must look good to the player.

“Over The Top Golf are delighted to add Fourteen Golf to our portfolio of brands. Our philosophy is to introduce premium quality golf brands to the UK & European golf markets, Fourteen may carry a more attractive price point compared to traditional Japanese forged products, but there’s no question on the premium quality and performance of the range” said Oliver Turnill, Managing Director.

    RM4 Wedges

The RM4 wedges are forged from soft S25C steel, a rarity in modern wedges. They feature a Step Blade Design that uses a unique horizontal step between the left and right sides of the top of the blade. This centres and raises the CG to improve spin control, workability and feel at impact. They also feature precision scorelines and a mirror face milling design that maximises spin for the lifetime of the wedge.

Higher lofted wedges are available in two options, either an S sole or H sole. The S (Standard) SOLE is an all-around easy to use wedge An increased volume in the sole improves stability and allows the head to glide smoothly and pick up the ball effortlessly making it easy to use from various lies. The H (Hill) SOLE features more heel and toe relief (creating the hill shape). This allows the wedge to be open or closed while still maintaining a constant bounce angle.

    DJ-6 Wedges

If the RM-4 wedge is designed for the better player, the DJ-6 is designed to help the average golfer. Featuring a Theatre Blade design for forgiveness, and forged from S20C Steel, one of the softest metals you will find in a clubhead, the wedges most distinctive feature is a Neo-Canyon sole. If you are prone to duffing a wedge, the front part of the sole gets to the back of the ball, while the rear half helps get the club back out of the turf. This style of sole is normally really good out of the sand as well.

    TB-5 and TB-7 Irons

Fourteen utilise a unique Theatre Blade design. This removes the cavity step in the back and allows the thickness to flow naturally in a curved shape. This creates an optimal CG (centre of gravity) and a reduction in vibrations transmitted to the hands. The irons are forged from soft S20C mild steel. The results are an optimally balanced iron featuring both best in class feel and forgiveness.

TB-5 is a slightly larger iron with stronger lofts, but this is still a modern blade design. A Universal Sole design helps prevent digging.

The TB-7 features a smaller head, and is a more versatile iron designed for the better ball striker looking for some versatility.

    TC-7 Irons

Forged from soft S25C steel, the TC-7 irons are designed for the better player looking for forgiveness and control. Featuring a classic look at address, the irons utilise an undercut and variable face thickness for added consistency and control. The thicker cavity helps create a more solid, blade like feel, while offering more forgiveness for the better player.
