The PGA Collection can offer customised clubs for golf beginners, which teaching pros can include in the cost of introductory lessons. The company believes this will incentivise beginners to practice, boosting participation in the game. If the new golfer can practice using a correctly fitted club, with correct lie, length and shaft flex they will find it easier, resulting in more confidence to continue and ambition to improve.
When a student signs up for their course of lessons, the teaching pro can order a customised seven iron from the PGA Collection which is normally supplied within seven days. The cost of the seven iron (£7.50 for steel, £8.50 graphite) can be included in the cost of the lesson or alternatively sold at a discounted price.
Some busier courses and ranges have ordered a number of pre-customised seven irons with a selection of upright, flat, longer, shorter, senior flex, ladies and so on, to be given out to their clients on their first lesson. The company also supplies professionals with seven irons uncut so that the pro can customise them.
Sigma Golf managing director of Richard Jewell, (responsible for the PGA Collection and an Advanced Fellow of the PGA) stated, “In various discussions with the leading authorities including the R&A, we were all in agreement that if the first time golfer can take away a club to practice after their first lesson, they are more likely to continue making use of the practice facilities and driving ranges the club has to offer on a regular basis.
“In trials we ran last year, the professionals that offered a customised seven iron to their new golfers saw a very good take up from their pupils in purchasing additional customised clubs to match their seven iron. The best results seem to be from the pros that included the cost in their lesson packages and advertised that the lesson package includes a free of charge customised club. This approach had a much better take up than previous group lessons. The key is always to aim to make it as easy, rewarding and accessible as possible for those looking at starting the game.”
The PGA Collection offers a wide range of specifications including men’s, ladies, seniors and juniors in both right and left-hand. More details at: www.pgacollection.co.uk
