Willet wins at Wentworth as Callaway dominate tour counts

Callaway Staff Professional, Danny Willett, led the final round from start to finish on his way to victory in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, capping an outstanding week for Callaway and Odyssey.

Danny’s 20-under par three-shot winning margin, following rounds of 68, 65, 68 and 67, was underpinned by consistency throughout his game. During the final round, he was 1st in Greens in Regulation, 3rd in Putts per GIR, and 6th in Putts per Round; impressive stats that helped him to his seventh European Tour title and a winner’s cheque of €1,056,662.

In securing his second Rolex Series title, the former Masters Champion used an Odyssey Stroke Lab Tuttle Putter, which has been a constant feature in his bag since winning the 2018 DP World Tour Championship in Dubai, and features the innovative multi-material Stroke Lab Shaft that’s designed to improve tempo and consistency throughout the stroke.

Danny was quick to reference Callaway’s Chrome Soft X Golf Ball as being a major factor in his win this week: “Switched to a new ball with Callaway this year in January and that I think has helped massively with the ball flight and spin ratios which has helped me perform better in the wind; the wind swills around here; the Open was really good”

Callaway also celebrated being the #1 Driver and Iron Brand at the flagship event on Wentworth’s iconic West Course, whilst Odyssey Putters were the choice for 50% of the field, underlining their position as the #1 Putter on every major Tour in 2019.

Neil Howie, Managing Director and President of Callaway Golf EMEA, added: “What an incredible week for #TeamCallaway. Danny showed real composure coming down the stretch to seal another landmark victory. It was also great to see him pushed all the way by our South African Staffer, Christiaan Bezuidenhout, a real talent for the future, who secured a much-deserved third place.”

Fellow Staff Professionals, Henrik Stenson and Francesco Molinari, also used the BMW PGA Championship to debut Callaway’s new JAWS MD5 Wedges. Molinari used 50°, 56° and 60° models, with Stenson opting for 52° and 58°.

JAWS MD5 is designed with the most aggressive grooves in golf, led by a new JAWS groove design with innovative Groove-in-Groove Technology for exceptional spin.
