Sparks fly at La Manga

La Manga provided the venue for the Sparks La Manga Classic, with the 54-hole Stableford three day event taking place on the resort’s North and South courses and raising £15,000 for the leading children’s medical research charity. Since 1991, Sparks has raised more than £26 million to fund vital research into a range of conditions affecting babies, children and mums-to-be.

Heading the list of veteran sporting stars taking part was Scotland assistant manager Mark McGhee; Allan Wells, winner of the 100 metres gold Olympic medal in 1980; former Wimbledon, Chelsea and England goalkeeper Dave Beasant and ex-Tottenham star Steve Sedgley.

Andrew Loudon won the individual competition with an impressive 99 Stableford points from his three rounds, with ‘The Nannies’ winning the top team with a total of 255 points over the three days. David Barker, head of golf events at Sparks, said, “We had a fantastic trip to La Manga Club and it was the perfect way to begin our exciting 2014 calendar of events. The competition is always very popular with everyone that takes part and, with golfing facilities that are among the best in Europe, people know they are guaranteed a good time when they visit. We’d like to thank everyone involved at La Manga Club for making the event such a success.”
