Rory makes it two majors in a row using Nike

Rory McIlroy pushed through in the final round of the PGA Championship to win his third consecutive tour title and second straight major championship. He is the first player to win three straight US PGA tour starts since Tiger Woods in 2008. His victory marks the second time he’s won the Wanamaker trophy in three years.

McIlroy’s overnight lead was overtaken by Ricky Fowler when McIlroy dropped two shots in the first six holes following a rain delay to his start. His comeback charge started on the tenth when he was three shots back. McIlroy hit his Nike Covert 2.0 3-wood on the par five to within seven feet of the hole and sank the putt for eagle with his Nike Method 006 putter. He built a two-stroke lead with a ten foot birdie putt at the seventeenth and sealed his win with a par on the eighteenth hole.

Reflecting on his remarkable achievement McIlroy stated, “I’ve never won three times in a row. And I’ve never won back-to-back majors. It’s a whole new experience for me doing what I’ve done this summer, so I’m trying to let it all sink in.”

With his combination of Nike Covert 2.0 Tour driver and Nike RZN Black ball, McIlroy ranked first in driving distance for the third straight week, averaging 315 yard drives. For the tournament McIlroy wore apparel from Nike Golf’s Performance Collection and the Nike Lunar Control shoe.
