PGA gong fest for Rory

Rory McIlory picked up a medal haul at the European Tour’s annual awards dinner. He made a cleansweep of PGA medals all relating to his victory in last year’s Open Championship at Royal Liverpool.

McILroy, an honorary member of The PGA having played for Europe in the Ryder Cup, received the Ryle Memorial for winning the Open Championship, the Tooting Bec for the lowest round and the Braid Taylor Memorial for finishing as the highest PGA Member at the championship.

David Wright, The PGA’s heritage executive explained, “The Ryle Memorial medal was instigated in 1920 in memory of Arthur Ryle – a former chairman of The PGA. Rory also collected the Tooting Bec medal for returning the lowest 18 hole score in the championship. And finally Rory received the Braid Taylor Memorial medal which was introduced in 1966 in memory of two of our founding fathers and is presented to the PGA Member finishing highest in the Open.”
