Celtic Manor to host final of Srixon Amateur Championship

Ryder Cup 2010 host venue Celtic Manor will host the grand final of this year’s Srixon Amateur Championship, which will see at total of 10,000 amateur golfers battle it out to be crowned champion.

The event, staged alongside the TGI Golf Partnership – golf’s leading retail services group – is now in its seventh year and has been staged at prestigious venues such as Wentworth, Turnberry and The Belfry.

The Twenty-Ten Course where Europe famously beat the US to regain the Ryder Cup, will host this year’s event, on September 8, and will see TGI Golf Partners and their amateurs battle it out for supremacy.

Srixon, has announced that it will support 90 qualifying events across the UK & Ireland, supplying Partners with prizes including a Srixon Fairway Wood, Srixon light stand bag and a dozen Z Star golf balls for first, second and third places respectively.

The format of the event will see TGI Golf Partners staging qualifying medal events between now and June with the winner of each going onto a national leaderboard. The top 20 amateurs at the end of June will join their PGA Professionals at the grand final.

Those taking part in qualifying medals will be able to keep up-to-date with their progress on the national leaderboard via the microsite www.srixonamateurchampionship.co.uk.

Ben Davis, UK Brand/Marketing Manager Srixon/Cleveland Golf, said: “We could not be happier to continue our title sponsorship of the TGI Srixon Amateur Championship, following the success of last year’s inaugural event that saw so many golfers come together to compete for the title. This year we are looking at over 10,000 golfers competing at 90 events nationwide, all battling it out to compete alongside their TGI Golf Pro in the grand final at Celtic Manor.”

Adele McLean, TGI Golf Group Services Manager, added: “We are extremely thankful to Srixon for its continued support of this great event. Each year our Partners look forward to this event as it gives them a great opportunity to add value to their monthly medals with some fantastic prizes on offer, not to mention the chance for their customers to play at such an amazing venue as Celtic Manor.”
