Callaway staff in dramatic play-off battle as Campillo wins

New Callaway Staffer, Jorge Campillo, emerged victorious in a dramatic five-hole head-to-head play-off with fellow Callaway player, David Drysdale, to decide the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters title.

The 33-year-old Spaniard, who joined Callaway this season, used a full bag of the company’s products, including three MD5 JAWS Wedges (46°, 52°, 58°) and a 13.5° MAVRIK Fairway Wood to claim his second PGA European Tour title, less than a year after winning his maiden Tour title, the Hassan II Trophy in Morocco.

JAWS MD5 Wedges feature the new JAWS Groove, and Groove-in-Groove Technology, to deliver excellent spin and control around the greens. MAVRIK Fairway Woods use the incredible power of A.I. and Machine Learning to fully optimize size, shape and CG location, to increase ball speed for maximum distance.

Both Jorge and David finished the tournament at Education City Golf Club in Doha, tied on -13, and it took Jorge’s successful 20ft birdie putt on the fifth play-off hole (using an Odyssey Toulon Madison Putter) to separate them.

It was a very strong week for a host of other Callaway Staffers, with Swede Alexander Björk, England’s Chris Paisley, Italian Nino Bertasio, and Jorge’s fellow countryman, Pablo Larrazábal, all finishing in the Top 10.

Soon after collecting his trophy and €258,655 winner’s cheque, Jorge said: “I’m just so proud right now of the way I played in the play-off. I hardly missed a shot and I was able to make some putts. I hit some good shots in the middle of the round but you have to be patient, you have to try hard. I knew I was going to make some putts. It was a tough win, but I’m glad I pulled it off.”

Neil Howie, Managing Director, Callaway EMEA, added: “Callaway Staff Professionals and our market-leading products dominated the Qatar Masters all week and huge congratulations must go to Jorge who edged the win in fine style…what a start to life at #TeamCallaway!”
