Callaway go Rogue for 2018

The Callaway Epic was a smash hit last season. To paraphrase an old piece of TaylorMade marketing, the new Rogue just got ‘Epicier’, taking the best parts of the Epic, then making it more powerful and more forgiving.

Callaway took the technologies that made GBB Epic the best-selling driver in the U.S. to create Rogue, a driver that combines all then know about boosting ball speed with a new, MOI-enhancing shape that delivers extraordinary forgiveness.

“Designing a driver that would surpass the performance of the current #1 Selling Driver in Golf was a significant challenge and Rogue is the result of exhaustive research and a new ball-speed recipe we call ‘Jailbreak Effect’ – specifically, how Rogue’s new Jailbreak hourglass-shaped titanium rods work in tandem with Callaway’s new proprietary X-Face VFT face technology.”

“In Rogue, we now have a new, formidable family of drivers that not only create greater ball speed and enhanced distance, but we have also made them easy-to-use too.”

Industry-leading ball speed comes from what Callaway call “The Jailbreak Effect.” New, hourglass-shaped titanium
bars, make the jailbreak significantly lighter without affecting their ability to minimize crown and sole deflection at impact. That allows for a thinner face and better energy-transfer to the ball, to promote faster ball speed. An enhanced X-Face architecture thickens and thins strategic areas of the face to promote higher ball speeds on off-centre impacts and consistently high ball speed and long overall distance.

Rogue’s new and more forgiving 460cc shape boasts a larger address footprint than Epic. Rogue’s extreme forgiveness is made possible by the incredibly light and strong triaxial carbon crown, which allows more weight to be distributed into the head’s perimeter to increase stability on off-centre hits.

Boeing and Callaway collaborated to develop the Speed Step Technology used in past Callaway metalwoods. In Rogue, they’ve redefined the geometry of the leading edge to improve airflow to promote faster head speed.

Callaway offers a wide range of premium no-upcharge aftermarket shafts at 40g, 50g, 60g, 70g and 80g weights, including Aldila Quaranta, Aldila Synergy, Project X EvenFlow, and Project X HZRDUS Yellow.

Alongside the Rogue are Rogue SubZero and Rogue Draw versions. The Subzero features a similar construction, but a more traditional head shape. two movable weights at the front and back allow for a fine tuning of spin rate and Moi. This is the lowest spinning driver in the line but still features a ton of forgiveness.

The Rogue draw does what it says on the tin, with a weight set in the heel position to encourage a draw. compared to the Epic in it’s most draw biased setting, the Rogue Draw will add an extra 7 yards of right to left, for a total of 18 yards of draw.
