Abacus Sportswear extends Ryder Cup licensee agreement

Following its success at The 2014 Ryder Cup, Abacus Sportswear, the pioneer of high-performance stretch waterproof fabrics, has signed a new Ryder Cup licensee agreement for the 2016 and 2018 matches.

As an Official Licensee to the biennial event, the Swedish technical clothing brand will produce an exclusive Ryder Cup collection for consumers, consisting of polo shirts, pullovers, layer products and high performance rainwear, which will be made available in retailers across Europe.

Richard Hills, Director of Ryder Cup Europe, said: “Abacus Sportswear has been a valuable Official Supplier to The European Tour for many years and following its success at The 2014 Ryder Cup at Gleneagles, it was only natural that we developed this relationship further by appointing the company as an Official Licensee to both the 2016 and 2018 Ryder Cup matches.”

Sven-Olof Karlsson, Owner of Abacus Sportswear, commented: “The 2014 Ryder Cup at Gleneagles was a considerable success, not only for the European team but for my company, as it introduced the abacus brand to a global audience, something we look forward to building on over the coming years.

“The long-term Official Licensee agreement builds on our existing relationship with The European Tour and ensures Abacus Sportswear is now closely aligned with the two most prestigious team events in golf worldwide, The Ryder Cup and The Solheim Cup, which is something we are very proud of.”
