GOLF RETAILING readers test out Chervo’s winter jackets

As part of a giveaway last year we offered some of our readers the chance to get their hands on a Chervo jacket and try it in the most demanding of conditions – winter in the UK!

The colour is a vibrant purple with a beautiful contrast green lining and zip. I was really pleased with the quality of the finish on this jacket with zipped pockets perfect for securely storing all your golfing necessities. This jacket kept me wonderfully warm when out practising in the frosty weather. I did not need copious amounts of bulky warm clothing underneath the jacket allowing free movement usually only enjoyed in the warmer months – finally a jacket I do not feel restricted in when out playing winter golf! The modern style of the jacket means that it fits with the more fashionable image of golf now developing, the junior girls at the course loved the style as did the more senior lady members. The jacket also fits my hectic lifestyle suiting golfing, coaching and general activities. It provided the crossover I need when I dash from the course onto the school run. I was certainly not out of place in the playground and received a number of positive comment about the jacket. A great cosy jacket suitable for golf and everyday activities.

The jacket is very lightweight and comfortable to wear. I normally wear a 42 chest and therefore ordered an XL as advised by the Chervo sizing chart. However, I discovered that the jacket was slightly tighter than anticipated due to the slim Italian fitting. I wore it whilst playing golf and giving lessons in order to assess the suitability of the jacket. When giving lessons, the jacket proved to be warm, comfortable and breathable thanks to the synthetic padding which has the same thermal insulating properties as down feathers. I found that the jacket was quite restrictive to move in but this is largely due to my error in choosing the size. Although the jacket is not waterproof, it is water repellent due to its Aqua Drop Fabric. This is suitable for light showers but not appropriate for the heavy rain we get in Northern Ireland! Overall, I would recommend this jacket for Autumn and Spring because it is perfect for milder conditions.

On the course it is actually very good to play in, allowing good freedom of movement whilst being exceptionally cosy. It adapts very well when you come indoors; you don’t boil.

I was also surprised with how well it copes with rain – when I used it out on the course it took a real soaking but I’m pleased to report that I remained dry. My only complaint would be sizing. I have the XXXL which fits, but I wouldn’t want to go any smaller. I am not Twiggy, but nor am I Billy Bunter and this is the largest size in the range, so it could hinder sales as not everyone would be able to fit into it. Anyone buying the jacket could only be impressed with it though, across the board.
