Lynx Golf’s Laura Davies come close to LPGA victory in Arizona

Just weeks after relaunching in the USA, Lynx Golf came within a whisker of gaining a first LPGA Tour victory as its ambassador Dame Laura Davies finished second in the LPGA Founders Cup at the Wildfire Golf Club, Phoenix, Arizona, on Sunday (March 18th).

The four-time Major winner, World Golf Hall of Fame inductee, first non-American to top the LPGA money list and seven-time winner of the Ladies European Tour Order of Merit finished in a share of second place, behind winner Inbee Park.

With a Lynx Black Cat driver fitted with a Fujikura Speeder Evolution 757 shaft and Lynx Parallax irons and Lynx Prowler wedges fitted with Nippon NS Pro 950GH shafts, the England star was hoping to record her 85th worldwide professional win but settled for her best finish for over a decade and her first top 10 place since 2014.

Congratulating Davies on her astounding performance – the 54-year-old would have become the oldest-ever winner of a LPGA Tour event had she ­ taken top spot –  Lynx Golf CEO, Steve Elford, said: “This was a magnificent performance and everyone at Lynx was so excited watching Laura take on the youngsters and show she still has what it takes to compete at the very highest level.

Having carded a 63 on Day Three to put herself in contention, Davies finished joint second on 14 under par with American Marina Alex and Ariya Jutanugarn of Thailand. They were all five shots behind winner Inbee Park of South Korea.

Now in her 32nd year on the Tour, Davies carded a three-under-par 69 in her final round. Her last Tour win came in 2001.

She’s been playing well without results reflecting it – and battling an Achilles tendon injury – so this proves she still has what it takes to play in the top flight and we’re delighted to have her on board.”

Following its debut at the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando in January, the Lynx 2018 range will be available for the first time in the USA from next month (April) through Dallas Golf www.dallasgolf.com.
