Worldwide Golf Brands are rallying around colleague, Operations Director Amy Rutledge, to help raise funds to pay for an operation to fix a hole in her son’s heart. The team are starting by holding an 18 Holes to Fix One Golf Day at The Shire on October 18th. This will be a 4-player team format with celebrities from the world of golf, sport and entertainment taking part. There is also a Gofundme page https://gofund.me/6bea374d for anyone wanting to make a donation towards the operation, the waiting list for which is 12 months on the NHS.
On June 17th Amy’s son Cai, a fit and healthy, keen footballer collapsed at home. Cai had a massive stroke and a blood clot on the brain as the result of an undetected hole in the heart, which needs to be closed in order to reduce the risk of further strokes.
“Amy has been my rock and right-hand here for the last 15 years, which is why I want to do everything I can to help her and her son,” comments Managing Director of Worldwide Golf Brands Graeme Stevens. “Without her the business wouldn’t be what it is today. I know a lot of people in the industry know her well, so I am sure they will want to donate money, prizes or join us at the golf day on October 18th to help fund her son’s operation.”
The 18 Holes to Fix One Golf Day will bring together a number of high-profile individuals including some of Oscar Jacobson’s tour players, international footballers and TV stars. Leading brands from inside and outside golf have already committed to providing amazing prizes and incredible gifts for all competitors including polo shirts from Oscar Jacobson, retail vouchers from American Golf, and a fantastic custom fit driver experience for 4 from Clubhouse Golf. Details will follow next week. A team in this worthy event will cost £1000 and includes breakfast, golf and dinner, at The Shire, the Seve Ballesteros designed course in London. “The past few months have been a blur for us. The doctors were amazing, but as Cai was taken to surgery, I didn’t know if I would ever see my son alive again. My world literally fell apart around me,” commented Amy. “We were incredibly lucky that Cai survived the stroke and that the blood clot could be removed. But, no matter how lucky we have been, he still needs to have the hole in his heart fixed. It’s like living with a ticking timebomb for us both.”
