UK Golf club manager of the year speaks about award

When Langland Bay’s director of golf, Andrew Minty, was recently hailed as the Golf Club Managers Association (GCMA) UK Golf Club Manager of the Year 2015, he was quick to heap praise on 59club, Europe’s leading golf-specific customer service benchmarking and training provider.

Minty, 34, the youngest and first manager of a Welsh golf club to win such an award, has been working closely with 59club since 2012 and during that time Langland Bay has also won the award for Golf Union of Wales’ golf club of the year in 2013.

“Although the award is an individual honour it’s also recognition for everybody involved at Langland Bay, and 59club has played a big part in our continued improvement over the last few years,” said Minty.

“We used the 59club benchmarking system as part of our application for the Golf Union of Wales’ golf club of the year award two years ago. The service has proved an excellent tool to train our staff and also to keep them on their toes to provide a consistent level of service.”

Minty took over the role at Langland Bay in 2010 and transformed the club’s marketing to the extent that in recent months Sky Sports, the BBC and Visit Wales have each showcased the venue with club membership almost doubling during his tenure. Projects designed to introduce beginners to golf have also led to 120 trying the game, with 85 subsequently joining the club.

59Club director Mark Reed said: “Congratulations to Andrew on his fabulous achievement. It’s great that he has been recognised by his peers for the great results he has achieved at Langland Bay. It comes as no surprise to us that he was named UK golf club manager of the year, as working so closely with Andrew, we’ve had an insider’s view of his performance and accomplishments.”

By way of a series of 59club mystery shopper recorded enquiry calls, live visits and regular member surveys, Minty is constantly armed with a wealth of information about the actual service afforded to his members and visitors.
