Tournament blossoms at Palmares

The 35th annual Almond Blossom Tournament was played recently at Onyria Palmares Beach and Golf Resort near Lagos in the Algarve. The amateur tournament had four separate events including a final medal round. The overall competition winner was Victoria Baily, an Onyria Palmares member.

Onyria Palmares Beach & Golf Resort reopened in 2011 following an extensive, €10m redesign by Robert Trent Jones Jnr. It has three loops of nine holes – the Alvor, Lagos and Praia courses. Readers of Today’s Golfer voted Palmares joint runner-up in the best Portuguese course category in the publication’s annual travel awards. Palmares is also listed at 23rd in Golf World’s Top 100 European Golf Courses.

António Pinto Coelho, operations director for Palmares stated, “The Almond Blossom Tournament is the oldest amateur event in the Algarve and it has been held at Palmares since 1977. It’s always been a popular event, particularly with the British and northern Europeans who see it as an ideal time to get away from their winter woes and enjoy friendly, competitive golf in some sunshine.”

The 36th Almond Blossom Golf Tournament will take place from 27 to 31 January 2015. More details at www.onyriaPalmares.com or call 00351 282 790 500
