Stabbings mar New Year’s celebrations at The Belfry

A total of seven men have been arrested after six people were stabbed during New Year celebrations at The Belfry. Warwickshire Police were called to the Bel Air nightclub, in the Belfry hotel grounds, at 12.50am and initially arrested three Birmingham men all in their twenties.

Police said when they arrived they found a 21-year-old man with a stab wound to the chest. He was taken to hospital and underwent surgery but his condition is not thought to be critical. A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and a 22-year-old was arrested on suspicion of assaulting another man.

A police spokesperson said, “While police were at the scene, further incidents took place, both inside and outside of the nightclub. These resulted in a further five people sustaining injuries, believed to be stab wounds. Four were taken to hospital.”

As of 2 January Warwickshire Police reported that two more men aged 26 and 21 years old, both from the Birmingham area, were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder, making a total of seven people arrested. One man remained in hospital in a stable but serious condition. Another man has been discharged.
