Royal & Awesome start to Hartson celeb golf day

The John Hartson Foundation’s first celebrity golf day was launched with a longest-drive competition featuring Celtic legends John Hartson, Frank McAvennie and Murdo MacLeod at Carrick Golf Course, Loch Lomond. The three wore Royal & Awesome golf apparel to tee off the charity golf challenge in aid of the fight against testicular cancer.

The actual event takes place on 18 March at Carrick Golf Course and will feature a host of stars from sports and entertainment including: former Wales international Robbie Savage; England former captain Alan Shearer; England striker Ian Wright; Liverpool boxer Neil ‘Razor’ Ruddock; ex-Westlife singer Brian McFadden; European tour golfer Marc Warren; Celtic manager Neil Lennon; Rangers manager Ally McCoist; and former Rangers players Derek Johnstone and Bert Konterman – among many famous names.

The Foundation was established by Hartson with the slogan ‘Grab Life by The Balls’ following his 2009 battle with testicular cancer. The charity raises awareness of testicular cancer and supports people with cancer and their families. He said: “We’ve had a lot of fun today at the beautiful Carrick course, launching my Foundation’s first celebrity golf event in Scotland. We have great support from some big names and I’m really looking forward to welcoming everyone and catching up with some old friends. I’m sure it will be a great experience for everyone involved but there’s a serious side to it all too – we’re raising awareness of testicular cancer in the hope that men will get the message about checking themselves and not leave it as long as I did if they have any worrying symptoms.”
