Onyria staff in fund raising run

Staff from Onyria Golf Resort in Portugal are planning to run 260km (161 miles) to raise money for a cancer charity. The run is between the company’s two hotels, the Onyria Marinha Edition Hotel in Cascais, Lisbon and the Onyria Palmares Beach & Golf Resort in Lagos, on the Algarve. The run will be non-stop, with runners taking on individual legs of 10, 20 or 30km depending on their abilities. The team of Onyria employees will be led by the company’s sales director, João Pinto Coelho.

Family and friends of the runners have the opportunity to help in the fundraising by participating in a 10km run or 4km walk preceding the start of the 260km ‘marathon’ on 5 July. It is hoped that around 1,500 people will enter the two walking events, with a further 25 completing the run to Lagos. Organisers anticipate the run taking between 26 to 30 hours to complete and it is hoped that as much as €10,000 will be raised for Portuguese Association Against Leukaemia.

Commenting on the fund raising event, João Pinto Coelho said, “We felt that the unique nature of our event – employees running between two sister properties 260km apart – would help draw attention to the disease and further illustrate the important role of the Portuguese Association Against Leukaemia.”
