New defibrillator provides video instructions

Martek Lifecare has released the Defibtech Lifeline View automated external defibrillator (AED). The company states that there are over 100,000 deaths due to sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) in the UK each year. More worrying is that without defibrillation to the heart within the first few minutes, the chances of survival are reduced dramatically and without treatment 90 to 95 percent of victims of SCA will die.

The Defibtech Lifeline View is said to be the first AED to offer step by step visual feedback for performing CPR, rescue breathing and external defibrillation whilst also providing clear video instructions for checking and changing the pads, battery pack and data card. Along with voice commands the Lifeline View takes the rescuer through each step of the rescue via a full colour video screen, which includes guidance on the CPR aspect of the rescue, with a metronome for the rescuer to deliver the CPR in time.

The Lifeline View is the ideal choice for non-medical people and organisations looking for a simple to use defibrillator that can be effectively deployed by anyone irrespective of whether or not they have been trained to use a defibrillator. Anyone can respond confidently and appropriately during an emergency.

Steve Coulson, director at Martek Lifecare stated, “A number of sports facilities are realising the benefits of having an automated external defibrillator on site. Sudden cardiac disease is the world’s biggest killer and by simply providing an electrical shock to the heart that person’s chance of survival is improved by 20 percent. That’s the difference between saving a life or losing a life.”
