McIlroy counter-sued by Horizon

According to a report in yesterday’s Telegraph newspaper, Rory McIlroy is being sued by his former management company, Horizon Sports Management, for £1.65 million, and the Telegraph speculates that the Northern Irish golfer may well settle rather than risk further damage to his finances.

The world number-six golfer was depicted as young and naive by his lawyers in the Dublin court room on Monday, when discussing his signing with his former managment group. The report states that Horizon Sports Management believes McIlroy could earn £31.3 million in the next year on deals they negotiated.

It will not be until October 2014 that the case will be heard by the High Court’s big business division, meaning the golfer will have to cope with the extra burden of the legal battle for most of the 2014 season, while trying to recover the peerless form his displayed in 2012, when he won his second major title and reached the summit of golf’s world ranking.
