MACWET GLOVES FEATURE IN RAI MAJOR WIN

MacWet enjoyed a major championship breakthrough after long-time ambassador Aaron Rai secured his maiden major title at the PGA Championship wearing the brand’s distinctive two-glove setup.

Rai closed with a five-under-par 65 at Aronimink Golf Club to finish on nine under par and become the first Englishman to win the PGA Championship since 1919. The victory continues a remarkable run of success for the Wolverhampton golfer, who has trusted MacWet gloves since childhood.

The 31-year-old’s use of two black gloves has become one of the most recognisable equipment setups in professional golf. Unlike most tour players, Rai wears gloves on both hands for every full shot, removing them only on the greens and occasionally for bunker shots.

MacWet’s Aquatec® microfibre technology is designed to improve grip in moisture and humid conditions, rather than deteriorate as traditional leather gloves often can. That performance has made the gloves particularly suited to the varying conditions Rai has faced throughout his career, including victories at the Scottish Open, Hong Kong Open, Wyndham Championship and now his first major title.

For retailers, Rai’s victory provides significant visibility for a specialist accessories category that rarely receives mainstream attention during major championships. The highly visible two-glove setup also creates a clear point of difference at retail level, particularly for golfers seeking additional grip stability during wet weather or summer conditions.

Rai’s victory further reinforces the growing trend of golfers placing greater emphasis on grip connection and feel throughout the swing. Despite ranking among the shorter hitters on the PGA Tour, Rai relied on exceptional accuracy and consistency throughout the week, including hitting every fairway on the back nine during the final round.

The victory secures Rai five-year exemptions into all four majors and elevates both the player and MacWet onto one of the biggest stages in the game.
