Lancashire win Men’s County Championship

Lancashire won the English Men’s County Championship by 1½ game points after a tense final day at Wychwood Park, Cheshire.

The team from the North West beat Somerset by 1½ game points, after the teams tied with two match wins apiece. Lancashire clinched the title with a 5-4 win over Hampshire, while Somerset beat Lincolnshire 5½-3½.

At the start of the final day’s play on Sunday any of the four team could have won and Lancashire team captain Paul Williams, who also steered the team to their last victory in 2013 congratulated his team for pulling together before adding that the win was, “Superb, but it was tight!”
