Padraig Harrington (Pro V1) posted a closing 7-under 64 to cap off a seven-shot runaway victory in Boca Raton. The win, Harrington’s sixth PGA Tour Champions title and second of the 2023 season, moved the 52-year-old to third in the season-long Schwab Cup standings, behind only Steve Stricker (Pro V1x) and Bernhard Langer (Pro V1x).
Over 54 holes this week in Florida, Harrington made a tournament-best 20 birdies and hit 43 of 54 greens in regulation (80%, T2).
Ten of the top 13 finishers this week teed up a Pro V1 or Pro V1x golf ball, while 24 of the 27 tournaments played this season on the PGA Tour Champions have been won with a Titleist.
HARRINGTON ON HIS PRO V1
“Confidence, it is all about confidence and I know Titleist are going to build the best golf ball.
“I like the feel of the ball, I go for the Pro V1 over the Pro V1x as it has a little softer feel when I am chipping but performance-wise they are very similar, both brilliant and go very long.
“It is the number one thing to have that trust in your golf ball, if you start to blame your golf ball or doubt it, you will have no confidence hitting your shots. For example, if you are trying to hit a 5-iron into a strong wind about 150 yards and you don’t trust your ball, what hope have you got.
“The most important thing in golf is to commit to your golf shot, to have that confidence in your swing that you are going to hit. To do that, you have to trust your equipment and you have to trust your golf ball.”
