Golf Foundation Goodwood Sixes uses Golf Genius to deliver innovative golf experience

The Golf Foundation joined up with Golf At Goodwood to put on a unique and innovative golf event with a twist, raising money for the national charity which helps youngsters of all ages get into golf.

In total the team event raised more than £18,000 with all the funds going directly towards supporting Golf Foundation initiatives.

The spectacular golf day on the Sussex Downs featured a unique three-way format as well entertaining on-course challenges, themed buggies and a special golf clinic with Golf Foundation Ambassador and European Tour winner Graeme Storm.

In order to deliver a modern, innovative golf experience to its guests, Goodwood turned to its tournament partner, Golf Genius, to run the Sixes-style tournament which featured multiple formats with players rotating partners throughout the round and all results aggregated over the 18 holes.

Stuart Gillett, General Manager of Golf At Goodwood, commented: “The feedback from golfers about the exciting format and scoring system was fantastic. We know from our experience of using Golf Genius for all of our events that the software makes it much easier to deliver these types of events, from start to finish.”

Golfers competed on The Downs Course in teams of four playing holes 1-6 in Pairs Betterball format, holes 7-12 in Chapman Pairs and the final six holes in a Pairs Texas Scramble, each block of six holes switching partners within their group.

To streamline the scoring Golf Genius created a bespoke scorecard for the event calculating handicap allowances on each hole specific for the format and ensured it was all explained in simple terms on the card for golfers to understand.

Vanessa Bell, Head of Fundraising at the Golf Foundation, reiterated that sentiment: “Using Golf Genius made the scoring so much easier for all the players and their support helped us to deliver a first-rate event which demonstrated the fun and interesting ways you can set up a golf event.”

Craig Higgs, Managing Director of Golf Genius International, commented: “Recently, we have been seeing greater demand for exciting formats and innovative events to encourage golfers to engage with the tournament and have more fun on the course.

“This special day is a great example of what can be done with a golf event to make it more appealing and ultimately, more fun. It’s fantastic to be a part of such a successful day which raised a great sum towards growing the future of the game.”
