Golf Care GOLF covers cost of new BMW after golfer makes a hole in one!

Specialist golf insurer, Golf Care, recently covered the cost of a brand new BMW after one lucky golfer scored a hole-in-one during an annual charity golf day. Christopher Townson collected the keys to his new car, after acing the par-3, 166 yard, 10th hole, at Close House Hotel & Golf Resort in Northumberland, where Lee Westwood is attached.

The organisors said that “There is no doubt the opportunity to win such a grand prize created a buzz of excitement and anticipation amongst competitors, by providing the feel of a Tour event for those taking part. Although reports suggest the odds of an average player scoring a hole-in-one are as much as 12,000/1, the event in question underlines the importance of being insured regardless”.

Amazingly, Christopher almost defied the odds again later in the round whilst claiming the nearest-the-pin prize on the 17th hole, coming within inches of another hole-in-one.

“Dealing with Golf Care could not have been easier; this is the second successive year we’ve worked with them and obtaining a quote and purchasing online is quick and simple. For a low premium, obtaining proper insurance was obviously the right thing to do.  I’m delighted for Chris in winning such a fantastic prize and obviously because it won’t come at any expense to the event,” said Stewart Bailey, Event Organiser. “The opportunity to win a new car, especially a BMW, creates a fantastic atmosphere, which proves invaluable to the event experience when you’re attempting to raise money for charity. It’s certainly something that we’re going to continue to do moving forward in our efforts and given recent events we’ll be looking to Golf Care to insure us.”

Bailey has been raising money for various charities for several years and in the last three years alone has raised over £40,000 for a host of local charities in the North East, including the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, Cash For Kids and the Tiny Lives Stroke Association Shelter. For this particular event, an incredible £2,250 was raised for the Grace House Children’s Hospice, based in Sunderland, Tyne & Wear, which relies solely on donations to provide care for terminally ill children.

Although, the fundraising element was of upmost importance, the day will of course also be remembered for Townson’s hole in one. “It was an amazing feeling. For an amateur like me to be given the opportunity to play for such an amazing prize was fantastic. There’s no doubt it topped off an already unforgettable day. I can’t wait to come back next year and try and win another one! I must thank Golf Care, Stratstone Silverlink BMW and GVA Property Consultants for their involvement.”
