Garmin launch the Approach X40 golf GPS band

Garmin International Inc. has announced the Approach X40, a GPS golf band that combines comprehensive golfing data for more than 40,000 international courses, Garmin Elevate wrist heart rate and daily activity tracking.

Approach X40 GPS shows precise distances to the front, back and middle of the green, as well as hazards and doglegs on over 40,000 preloaded international courses. The new AutoShot 4 game tracking feature automatically tracks shots along the fairway and measures distances for detailed post-game analysis on Garmin Connect. Approach X40 also doubles as advanced activity tracker1 including Garmin Elevate wrist heart rate1 and smart notifications2 for calls, SMS and emails to connect you with your active lifestyle.

“We’re excited to introduce our new Golf GPS in the form of a slim and sleek band, bringing more style and fun to the game,” said Martin Resch, Senior Product Manager Golf EMEA. “The Approach X40 is the perfect all-in-one solution for golfers who want to know all the distances on the course and track wellness data 24/7 without the hassle of switching between multiple devices.”

The Approach X40 is Garmin’s smallest and lightest golf GPS device. The Approach X40 comes preloaded with data for more than 40,000 international courses with no additional fees or subscriptions and measures precise distances to the front, middle and back of the green as well as layups, doglegs and hazards like bunkers and water. Additionally, the Approach X40 features Green View, which displays the shape of the green on each hole and allows golfers to manually place the pin for more accurate yardages.

On the course, the X40 acts as a digital scorecard, which can track individual stats like fairways hit, greens in regulation and putts per round. When using the AutoShot game tracking feature, X40 users can gather even more data like the average distance for each club, longest drive per round and overall. They can even see their shot history overlaid onto a course view map to discover personal game trends and tendencies, so they know what to work on for the next round. The X40 supports automatic uploads for golf and wellness data to the Garmin Connect Mobile app, so users can easily access all their data in one place. Within Garmin Connect, golfers can share their scorecards, and access all their stats including longest shots, average score, putts and more.

With daily activity tracking, the Approach X40 records daily steps, calories burned, distance, time of day, hours of sleep and reminds users to stay active throughout the day with move alerts. Featuring Garmin Elevate wrist heart rate technology, the X40 monitors heart rate 24/7 and gives users accurate credits for activities on and off the course without being forced to wear a chest strap. It also keeps users connected during their activities by sending any notification from a compatible smartphone, including incoming calls, text, emails, calendar reminders and social media alerts.

To improve swing performance and consistency, the Approach X40 pairs seamlessly with the optional Garmin TruSwing golf club sensor. When paired, it provides golfers with useful swing metrics in real time displayed on their wrist and 3-D animations in Garmin Connect so golfers can see how their individual mechanics affect their ball flight and shot results.

The Approach X40 will begin shipping in Q2 2016 and will be available in black, white, frost blue, and limelight. RRP: £199.99
