Club de Golf Alcanada voted favourite European course for third year in a row!

Club de Golf Alcanada, in Mallorca, whos celebrating its 10th anniversary next month has been voted ‘favourite European course’ for the third successive year by users of the website 1golf.eu.

When the results of the poll were announced in early September, the Robert Trent Jones Jnr-designed course had relegated the likes of 1997 Ryder Cup venue Valderrama to third, and the Old Course at St Andrews to seventh spot.

The accolade follows on from the announcement from leading German magazine Golf Journal, in March, that its readers had also chosen Alcanada as their favourite course in Europe for an unprecedented fifth successive year.

Kristoff Both, director of golf at Club de Golf Alcanada, said: “This is a fabulous way for us to celebrate our 10th anniversary next month – and we will be presented with the award at our members’ gala dinner to commemorate our successful 10 years.

“To be recognised by the users of 1golf.eu as their favourite course for the third successive year is an astonishing achievement and one of which everybody here at Alcanada can be rightly proud. We have a fantastic golf course but we also pride ourselves on offering friendly, top-quality service and are privileged to have an outstanding venue in an enviable location.

“And clearly, that opinion is echoed by the users of 1golf.eu and the readers of Golf Journal. We thank them all for their votes and their patronage.”

Situated in the north region of Mallorca in a breathtaking location overlooking the Bay of Alcudia, Alcanada’s 18-hole championship course opened in October 2003. Adjacent to the Mediterranean – the only course next the sea on the island – the 6,499m course blends naturally into the typical Mallorcan terrain and takes its name from an island with a lighthouse, situated just offshore, which can be seen from most of the holes.

Magnificent mountain and sea views and a mixture of pine and olive groves provide the splendid setting for a round at Alcanada and the course is recognised by the golf industry as one of the finest venues in Spain and Europe and is a founder member of The Leading Golf Courses of Spain collection.

In addition, the club boasts a centuries-old Mallorca clubhouse which offers guests the opportunity to sample regional specialties in its first-class dining facilities on a sun-baked terrace. A comprehensive golf academy including a spacious short game area and covered driving range are also available.
