Callaway introduces XR club range

Callaway Golf has introduced the XR club range, replacing the previous X2 Hot series. The XR family includes drivers, fairways woods, irons and hybrids, designed the company says for “outrageous speed”.

Callaway also states that the new XR driver is the company’s fastest titanium driver ever and in Callaway’s own tests it averaged up to 5mph faster ball speed against the 2012 Callaway driver. The XR driver specification includes Speed Step aerodynamic crown; an ultra-thin R Moto Face for maximum ball speeds; OptiFit loft and lie adjustability; and a Project X LZ shaft.

Accompanying the driver, the XR fairway woods have re-designed head shapes featuring a 16 percent bigger sweet spot, 20 percent lower CG and a 36 percent thinner next-generation forged Hyper Speed Face Cup to increase ball speeds.

The two-piece construction XR irons incorporate an Internal Standing Wave (precisely positioning the CG and improving playability) and a Cup Face design providing increased forgiveness, greater ball speeds and more accuracy. The XR hybrids use substantial heel and toe weighting to give maximum forgiveness on all shots, with the new forged Hyper Speed Face Cup design to increase ball speeds and distance.

Callaway has also launched a new XR Pro club range designed for better players.

Neil Howie, president and managing director of Callaway Golf EMEA said, “Last year’s X2 Hot Family was a phenomenal success story, helping Callaway achieve ‘number-one hard goods’ status in Europe and underlining our goal of launching truly ground breaking products that deliver exceptional results. The new speed-focused XR Family represents a further step forward in levels of performance and we can’t wait to hear the feedback from golfers who put this new product into play.”
