Biggart gives a lesson in golf

Schoolteacher Bruce Biggart from Hamilton Golf Club has won the Srixon Amateur Championship. The event, run in conjunction with the TGI Golf Partnership saw golfers from across the UK and Ireland compete for the title. More than 10,000 golfers set out on the journey to become Srixon’s amateur champion, with TGI Golf Partners staging qualifying events, before the top 20 converged on the four-time Ryder Cup host venue to contest the final.

It was a close-run event with Biggart, a four-handicapper, finishing just one point ahead of St Enodoc’s Guy Hovill, who in turn was just a point ahead of reigning champion Liam Blacka from Keighley Golf Club.

The 20 amateurs contesting the final were joined by their TGI golf professional, and competed together for a team prize, run alongside the amateur championship. TGI golf pro Steven Harrison from Stocksfield Golf Club and his amateur partner Richie Armstrong, in another tight tussle, snapped up this team prize, with just a point separating them and runners-up Fraser Moore and amateur Henry Turnbull from Falkirk Tryst.

Ben Davis, Srixon UK brand and marketing manager said, “We were delighted to be involved in our first year as title sponsor and the event was a fantastic success. We were able to get our brands and products in front of over 10,000 golfers at golf clubs, plus be involved in a fantastic final at The Belfry. This enabled us to engage with some of our best customers and the 20 best amateur winners from their clubs.” More at: www.tgigolf.com
