BGL invests in marketing team to support continued growth

Following another enormously successful year and the continued emergence of its Adventure Leisure division, Burhill Golf and Leisure (BGL) has announced significant investment into its marketing division and the creation of a unified, larger group marketing team.

Sophie Burke has been appointed to oversee all group marketing activities as Group Head of Marketing, having served as Head of Marketing for BGL’s Golf Division for the past four years.

During that time Burke has established a strong marketing team, which will continue to grow under the new structure, while overseeing the rebranding of nine out of 10 golf venues as well as handling an impressive of overhaul of the clubs’ websites and digital platforms.

Colin Mayes, BGL CEO, commented: “Sophie has been integral in strengthening and diversifying our marketing to accelerate the group into the ever-changing digital landscape over the past few years. She is thoroughly deserving of this appointment and I’m certain it places the group marketing team in strong hands.

“I’m also delighted that this is yet another senior management appointment from within the group, proving yet again, where possible we will look to promote from within.”

BGL has reported a 25% increase in membership across its 10 golf venues since 2015 as the group continues to buck the trend in an increasingly competitive market. This follows the continued pattern of reinvestment over the last few years into enhanced facilities leading to rising customer experience satisfaction scores group wide.

In the last two years the Adventure Leisure division has gone from strength to strength, opening 10 new adventure golf facilities across the country with new brand, Bunkers set to launch in Swansea this December. Merging the marketing departments of golf division and Adventure Leisure means both businesses will benefit from a larger and multi-skilled team.

“I’m delighted to be taking on this new challenge at such an exciting time for the Group. Our Adventure Leisure division has had a hugely successful period of growth and there is further expansion and development coming,” commented Burke.

“At the same time, we continue to improve and invest in our golf portfolio with the ultimate goal of providing the best possible experiences for our customers. I’m very excited to see what the future holds.”
