American Golf Junior Champions announced

Joseph Amer, aged 15, has become the second American Golf National Junior Champion. He fended off competition from the UK and Ireland’s best young golfers to win, at Gainsborough Golf Club, near Ping’s headquarters in Lincolnshire.

Amer took part in the qualifying event held at Broome Manor Golf Club and was one of just 36 golfers to make it through to the final. Playing off 14, Joseph came home three ahead of his closest rival with an impressive 40 points. As well as the title and trophy, Joseph also won a Ping G30 driver and Cadence putter courtesy of event sponsor Ping.

Eva Kenny from Swords was the leading girl on the day and was crowned American Golf Girl’s Junior Champion. Aged 13, she made the final through the qualifying event held at her home club of Roganstown, plays off 33 and scored 35 points to take the Girl’s title. The Ping Star of the Future award went to eight year old Stanley Lin for a second time. Stanley, whose home club is Telford Golf Club, plays off 45 and came home with 45 points.

More than 400 young golfers took part in six American Golf Junior Championship qualifying events held across the UK and Ireland this summer. All proceeds from the event have been donated to the Golf Foundation, American Golf’s official charity.

Daniel Gathercole, head of marketing at American Golf stated, “This is the second year we have run the Junior event and I am delighted to say that the group of young golfers we have welcomed here at Gainsborough has impressed us yet again. The standard of golf is fantastic, but what really inspires us is the attitude and sportsmanship of every single participant. The feedback from the players and their parents is incredible and we are really proud to be able to give Junior golfers a real tournament experience.”
