Alcanada’s pledge to maintain gold standards

Club de Golf Alcanada will be ready to “hit the ground running” to maintain its gold standards.

The outstanding Mallorca course picked up a coveted gold flag at the recent 59club awards, hosted at Forest of Arden. It was named among an elite list of courses to gain the award which included three Ryder Cup venues: Celtic Manor, Gleneagles and The Belfry.

Alcanada hosted its maiden European Challenge Tour event last year – the Road to Mallorca – to further underline its standing as a venue after an extensive renovation project over the winter of 2018/19.

The 59 club event was a gathering of the world’s leading golf destinations to recognise the standards of service and excellence throughout the golf industry and has become the benchmark for measuring and comparing customer-service levels.

And while huge challenges remain for the entire golf industry during the current restrictions due to the Corona Virus, Alcanada director of golf, Kristoff Both, is taking the opportunity to maintain the course to optimum levels in readiness for the restart in due course.

Both explained: “Nobody needs me to explain how difficult things are for everyone connected to the golf and tourism industry. But we have reached these standards and we need to maintain them, so we are ready to hit the ground running when the time comes.

“We are following the guidance but it still allows us for the moment to do some important work on the course, which we would not normally have been able to do at this time of year with players on the course.

“We have continued to improve the drainage, we have levelled some tees and have done so far  hollow coring of tees and fairways. We would normally hollow core the greens in June, but we will bring this forward. When the time comes, we will be ready and the course will be in perfect condition.”

Regarding the gold flag award, Both said: “It is always fantastic to receive this sort of recognition from the industry and be considered among so many of Europe’s top courses.”
