Adidas launches Asym Energy Boost shoes for lefties and righties

Adidas has launched the Asym Energy Boost, claimed to be the first fully asymmetrical golf shoe, with versions specifically for left-handed or right-handed players providing front and back foot specific performance technology. Basically the shoe for the leading foot has a different construction from the back foot shoe. Adidas says this front foot energy sling adds support to maximise power throughout swing with an external heel counter providing additional lateral stability and support

The Asym Energy Boost has several other benefits including an energy boost provided by full length boost foam for ultimate comfort and a soft and breathable micro-fibre leather upper with ‘Climaproof’ protection. Initially the Asym Boost will be available in three left-hand sizes: 8½, 9½ and 10½. Retail price is expected to be £199.

Terry Sims of the Left Handed Golf store at Silvermere GC has not previously stocked shoes, but says he will now sell the left-handed Asym Energy Boost. “For us it’s Utopia because it lets us open a complete new product category specifically aimed at left-handed golfers.”

As a PGA pro, Sims believes the Asym Energy Boost offers genuine benefits. “The mechanics of the golf swing are based on creating torque, like winding up an elastic band and then letting it go. So you need to create resistance in the lower half of the body and especially the leading foot. It follows that you need different traction in the outer edge of the leading foot to the back foot. The Asym Energy Boost provides this.” Sims adds, “It’s pushing the envelope in terms of shoe design and that’s good when you have something offering a real improvement.”
