Solheim Cup stocks up with Abacus

As the 2013 Solheim Cup fast approaches – the United States will host the matches against Europe at Colorado Golf Club from August 13-18 – the European team’s official clothing supplier, Abacus, has begun shipping its consignment of over 5,200 garments to be worn by players, caddies, officials and guests.

The wardrobe for each of the 12 players alone adds up to 2,922 garments and includes long, short and sleeveless polos, lightweight pullovers, wind jackets and vests, trousers, skorts, shorts and socks, as well as waterproof suits to protect against rain storms.

A further 300 pieces of Abacus sportswear will be making their way to America for the 2013 European PING Junior Solheim Cup Team, featuring 12 of the best young female golfers.

Abacus Sportswear is also supplying the Ladies European Tour and its guests with an additional 2,000 items of clothing for use during the four-day event.

“This will be the fourth Solheim Cup we have been involved with,” commented Chris Mattsson, designer at Abacus Sportswear. “The relationship began in 2007, when we designed the match outfits for Helen Alfredsson’s team for the 10th Solheim Cup, played at Halmstad GK, in Sweden.

“Over the past seven years we have learned a tremendous amount from dressing and supporting some of the world’s best female golfers, which is now benefitting all of our customers.”

Liselotte Neumann (pictured), captain of the 2013 European team, adds: “Making 12 individuals of 12 different shapes and sizes all look good in the same outfit, takes practice and experience. Whether the girls are most comfortable in shorts or skirts, short or long-sleeved shirts, Abacus Sportswear makes sure there is something that suits each and every one of us, because, on a day where you have to perform at your best, you need to feel your best.

“The brand’s experience of supplying the European Solheim Cup team over the past seven years is hugely important.”
