59 from Furyk at BMW Championship

Golf Retailing tips its hat to Jim Furyk who scored and amazing 59 to equal the record for the lowest 18-hole score in PGA Tour history in round two of the BMW Championship in Illinois.

43 year old Furyk recorded 11 birdies, an eagle and a bogey to becomes the sixth player to card a a sub sixty score.

His 12 under scored at the par-71 Conway Farms course moved him to share the lead at 11 under with last year’s FedEx Cup winner Brandt Snedeker (68).

“It’s absolutely the best round of golf I’ve ever played,” Furyk said.

“It will sink in later and I’ll have to calm down and realise I’m in contention for the golf tournament.”

Furyk’s previous best round is a 62, which he has achieved five times in his career.

The other players to shoot 59 on the PGA Tour are Al Geiberger, Chip Beck, David Duval, Paul Goydos and Stuart Appleby.

Whilst sixteen European Tour players have shot 60 none have achived this incredible feat.

The Presidents Cup selection committee may now regret leaving Furyk from their squad in the event to take place next month.
