Cleveland promises longest driver yet

Cleveland says its new 588 Custom driver is the most complete and longest it has ever made. An adjustable hosel gives golfers the choice of 12 settings to tune loft, lie and face angle to personal preference. An adjustable weight screw also adjusts swing weight, with additional weights available on order. RRP: £279

Big Bertha’s back

The new Big Bertha was one of the stars of the Callaway stand at the 2014 PGA Show. Available from February 2014, the club comes with an RRP of £349 – matching TaylorMade’s SLDR exactly – and £399 for the Big Bertha Alpha. The Big Bertha features Callaway’s new Adjustable Perimeter Weighting, with an eight-gram weight that slides around the perimeter of the clubhead, and which can be positioned at any point along a five-inch track, with a view to helping golfers boost shot shape.

McIlroy puts Nike Covert 2.0 into play

Rory McIlroy put Nike’s new VR_S Covert 2.0 driver into play at the end of 2013. The cavity-back Covert 2.0 features new Fly-Brace technology, which should increase stability and deliver greater distance and forgiveness. RRP: £350.

Complementing the Big Bertha range for Callaway this year is the X2 Hot, which was due to arrive at retailers starting in January. The driver features Callaway’s new Hyper Speed Face technology, for greater forgiveness across the clubface. An Opti-Fit hosel is designed to make adjustability straight forward. RRP: £279

Foremost award winner

Ping’s G25 was launched this time last year and carries on through 2014, alongside the new i25. Designed as the more forgiving driver of the pair, the G25 was Ping’s first G-Series driver to offer adjustable loft, and its popularity last year led it to being named Driver of the Year by Foremost Golf. RRP: £299
