Awards winners and new members

    Philip Morley, independent executive chair of the BGIA, provides news of what has been occurring in the golf industry and with the BGIA themselves for the last time this year.

    September and October have been productive months at the BGIA, we’re pleased to announce that the BGIA and the PGA will hold a joint ‘British Golf’ drinks reception in Orlando, invitations will be circulated in the coming weeks.

    Many thanks to BGIA members American Golf who invited us to their recent Awards Dinner, it was good to see recognition given to another BGIA member, PING for their service to the industry, the voting public recognised a year in which they have consistently delivered products that have helped the U.K. golfing public improve their game and get more enjoyment from golf.  BGIA Executive Board member Steve Carter, who is also PING’s European Sales Director, gave a fantastic acceptance speech.

    BGIA Association Manager Ciara Morgan and I have been out meeting with prospective new members are delighted at the likelihood of more new members joining. The BGIA represents all the manufacturers in the golf industry and we expect several new members to follow in the footsteps of Srixon Europe and Lynx Golf (and become new members) shortly.

    On 18th October, the BGIA welcomed members from around the UK for a seminar: ‘Getting to market through selective distribution – what’s next?’ This afternoon session was open FOC to all FSPA member associations including the BGIA. Following the recent publication by the European Union of its sector enquiry into e-commerce, and in light of recent enforcement activity by the EU and national competition authorities, our members grasped the opportunity to get up-to-speed on how these developments could affect their sports business. Feedback from the seminar stated how relevant the speakers were to the problems they are facing.

    Ciara and I also recently visited the new offices of the Golf Foundation. They are modern, bright and very functional, the team are delighted with their new working environment.  The CEO Brendon Pyle gave a detailed presentation of the work carried out, the Golf Foundation really do create a strong underpinning  for the game with all the tremendous work they do for junior golf, the BGIA are proud to be able to support them.

    In the coming months, we’re working on designing a document that will give an overview of how the different associations sit within the golf industry. Information has been requested from the various organisations which will be collated. This document will be particularly useful as an overview for those new to the golf industry.
