Bubba Watson won the WGC-HSBC Champions tournament in Shanghai, China playing the new Titleist Pro V1x prototype golf ball for the first time in competition. Watson edged out Titleist Brand Ambassador Tim Clark (Pro V1) at the first extra play-off hole to become the first player to use the new prototype Pro V1x to winning effect.
It was Watson’s third tour victory in 2014 and saw him holing a bunker shot on the 72nd hole for eagle and then converting a lengthy birdie putt on the first extra hole in a sudden-death play-off after tying with Tim Clark on eleven under par.
As well as being the choice of the champion and majority of top finishers, Titleist golf balls were also the choice of more players in the limited field, with 41 players compared to 17 for the nearest competitor. Titleist was also the field favourite in the irons and wedge categories.
