Vice-Captain Torrance is a man of Letters

Scottish clubmaker John Letters has added to the chorus of support for Sam Torrance’s appointment by  Paul McGinley as one of the European team vice-captains for the Ryder Cup event at Gleneagles this September.

Torrance now 60, has been playing John Letters clubs on the European Senior Tour since 2011 and signed his first professional contract with John Letters in 1971. He was the winning Ryder Cup captain in 2002 when McGinley’s putt secured victory. Torrance himself holed the winning putt in 1985 to beat the United States team for the first time in 28 years.

Commenting Torrance said, “Everyone who knows me, knows how important the Ryder Cup has been in my career, both as a player and as a captain, and I’m over the moon that Paul has given me the opportunity to be involved in this wonderful sporting occasion once again. Particularly with the event to be played on Scottish soil, and as an ambassador for a Scottish brand in John Letters, it couldn’t be more exciting for me.”
