Torrence on Podium at Scottish Seniors

John Letters of Scotland, the equipment brand with 95 years of clubmaking history, is delighted for staff player Sam Torrance OBE, who finished in a tie for second place at the SSE Scottish Senior Open at The Fairmont St Andrews.

Torrance, who recently signed a multi-year extension with Scotland’s finest club maker at The Senior Open Championship at Royal Birkdale and has also been named as a captain for The Seve Trophy, was the last Scot to win the Scottish Senior Open seven years ago. With rounds of 70, 72 and final round 70, the 43-time tour winner recorded a four (-4) under par total of 212 on the course he helped design and finished just a shot back from eventual winner, Spain’s Santiago Luna, alongside Ireland’s Denis O’Sullivan.

“I’m delighted with how I played. It’s my last tournament in my 50s so I’m pleased. It was a nightmare out there with the long putter in the wind, but I holed two crackers on 17 and 18 – a five footer for par on 17 and an eight footer for birdie on 18” said the John Letters ambassador.

Using the full complement of Letters’ products, Sam’s podium finish and cheque for € 24,641.71 pushes him up to 24th of the order of merit.

On re-signing with Letters a few weeks ago, John Andrew, John Letters Managing Director, said: “We are lucky to have such a supporter of the brand. Sam is a legend and great to work with, so we had no hesitation in re-signing him. We work closely with him in R&D to produce equipment that golfers can use and improve their game.”

“I can think of no one better to work with” added the John Letters Chief.

It was also another good week for fellow Letters Staff player Paul Wesselingh, who finished tied for 14th and jumps up one spot, from third to second on the Seniors Order of Merit.
