Tony Bennett left his bike at Orizonte-Lisbon Golf

Tony Bennett, the PGAs of Europe’s director of education and also president of the European Disabled Golf Association (EDGA), and his wife Sue are raising donations for disabled golfers across Europe by cycling across Portugal and playing one golf hole at 72 courses. This includes seven courses in the Orizonte-Lisbon Golf group, as part of their ‘Golf and Ride Portugal 2014’ challenge in aid of EDGA. The couple expect to cycle more than 1,200km over the coming months, visiting courses across the Portuguese mainland and the islands of Madeira and The Azores, before finishing in early September.

Launched this spring, Orizonte-Lisbon Golf offers the chance to play some of the leading courses close to Portugal’s capital together with value for money on a wide range of accommodation options across the region. The Quinta do Peru course has hosted several European Challenge Tour events while Aroeira features two championship layouts including Aroeira I, venue for the Portuguese Open in 1996 and 1997.

Pedro de Mello Breyner, Orizonte-Lisbon Golf spokesperson said, “Tony and Sue are raising money for a fantastic cause and we were delighted to help out in any way we could. With the courses in the Orizonte-Lisbon Golf group located so close together, it made perfect sense for them to play a hole at each of them. To visit 72 courses and cover such a large area of Portugal on a bike is a great challenge and will be an amazing achievement. We wish them the very best of luck.”
