Shortlist announced for 2016 GolfMark Club of the Year Award

Three golf clubs, each with an excellent record of growing the game, have been shortlisted for prestigious 2016 GolfMark Club of the Year award, supported by COBRA PUMA GOLF.

They are Erewash Valley Golf Club, Derbyshire; Hinckley Golf Club, Leicestershire; and Penrith Golf Club, Cumbria.

The winner of the England Golf award will be announced at a gala dinner in April when representatives of the GolfMark Club of the Year will receive a trophy and a prize from COBRA PUMA GOLF.

Abbie Lench, England Golf’s Head of Club Support commented: “The quality of this year’s nominations was very high and the scoring was close run, but it consistently highlighted our final three contenders.”

GolfMark is an England Golf initiative which supports its strategic plan, ‘Raising Our Game’. The plan calls on all who care about the sport to work together to create a brighter future for the game, including more members, more players and stronger clubs.

GolfMark supports clubs to achieve high standards in four areas: recruitment and retention; management and sustainability; coaching and competitions; and safeguarding.

This award, now in its eighth year, recognises GolfMark clubs which have made an outstanding contribution to developing the game through a range of activities. Windlesham Golf Club in Surrey was the 2015 winner of the Golfmark Club of the Year award.

The three finalists were among 13 nominated clubs, all of a high standard, and were selected by a judging panel from England Golf.

The other clubs nominated were: Beds and County Golf Club, Bedfordshire; Bristol & Clifton Golf Club, Gloucestershire; Druids Heath Golf Club, Staffordshire; Mid Sussex Golf Club, Sussex; Mullion Golf Club, Cornwall; The Nottinghamshire Golf Club, Nottinghamshire; Rookery Park Golf Club, Suffolk; The Point at Polzeath Golf Club, Cornwall; St Austell Golf Club, Cornwall; Taunton & Pickeridge Golf Club, Somerset.
