New clubhead construction for Callaway’s Big Bertha OS Irons

A new clubhead construction, Exo-Cage, is at the heart of the new Big Bertha OS Irons, promoting forgiveness and distance for game improvers.

The combination of strength and lightness in the Exo-Cage chassis means more discretionary weight can be re-distributed to beneficial locations within the head, and also allows the next-generation 360 Face Cup – a unique Callaway technology – to flex more, helping maximise ball speed and distance, even on off-centre hits.

In addition, a tungsten-loaded Standing Wave, accurately positioned in each iron, helps designers to progressively move the CG throughout the set, improving carry in the long irons and increasing control in the short irons.

Dr. Alan Hocknell, Senior Vice President of Research and Development, Callaway Golf, said:The iconic Big Bertha name has been synonymous with distance and forgiveness for years and these irons deliver on both fronts. The unique Exo-Cage construction has allowed us to strategically reposition weight like never before and with our next-generation 360 Face Cup, we are now pushing performance and playability to the very limit.”

Callaway has also targeted the needs of women and senior golfers with specific Big Bertha OS Iron sets that are lighter in overall weight and offer more loft to promote faster ball speeds and higher launch.

Perfectly matched to the Big Bertha OS Irons, the new Big Bertha OS Hybrids, with Optifit adjustability, offers the ultimate forgiveness in a hybrid. With a deeper body, a larger and faster face and Next Gen Face Cup technology, they are designed to be easy to launch high and long. Their larger and more flexible faces help in two ways; the added head size gives more contact area and this added flexibility pushes COR to the legal limit, promoting faster ball speeds for more distance.

Key refinements to the head design include a longer heel-to-toe length that allows for a larger and more forgiving face and a deeper body that offers increased MOI and stability.

Big Bertha OS Irons are available in 4-PW, AW, SW (RH/LH Men’s and Ladies). Hybrids are available in 3H (19°), 4H (22°), 5H (25°), 6H (28°), 7H (31°). RH 3H-7H in Men’s (LH in 3H-6H only). RH 3H-7H in Ladies (LH available only in Men’s heads).

Both products are in store from September 30, 2016.
