McIlroy ties Faldo as UK’s richest golf pro

The recently published Sunday Times Rich List shows that Sir Nick Faldo has been matched as Britain’s richest professional golfer by Rory McIlroy. Both have a fortune of £38 million but McIlroy’s pot has grown by £10 million in the last year.

This puts them both in the top-ten richest sportsmen (they are all men) and managers but way behind Lewis Hamilton at number one with £88 million. However, McIlroy has the comfort of knowing that a top golf professional can continue to 50 years old, with the senior tour beyond, whereas a top motor racing driver is done by his mid-thirties.

Neither Faldo or McIlroy has amassed enough money to make the cut into the top 1,000 richest people in Britain with £90 million being the cut line.
