Jose Asenjo Vera appointed new GM at La Manga

Respected businessman José Asenjo Vera has been appointed as La Manga Club’s new general manager as the five-star Spanish resort prepares to enter an exciting new era.

Asenjo Vera joins with immediate effect from Warner Park in Madrid and will be responsible for overseeing, developing and implementing future strategy at the award-winning Murcian resort.

The Spaniard has extensive experience and a proven track record in the management of high-profile sports and leisure destinations having been deputy general manager and financial director at Oceanographic Valencia for almost five years before taking over as CEO at Warner Park in June 2009.

Asenjo Vera is the second top managerial appointment to be made by La Manga Club in as many months after renowned entrepreneur and businessman PY Gerbeau joined as non-executive chairman at the end of August.

Asenjo Vera said: “I am facing this new and important responsibility with excitement, optimism and eagerness to work. I’m aware of the importance of this new challenge for me, to position La Manga Club as one of the most important and sports and leisure resorts in Europe.”

Having celebrated its 40th birthday last year, La Manga Club continues to set the benchmark for sports and leisure destinations across Europe and is widely recognised as Spain’s flagship venue.

Among its recent accolades, La Manga Club was named the best conference hotel in Spain at The Annual MICE Report Awards 2012 and has been voted the unanimous winner of the ‘Best Golf Resort in Spain’ by readers of the UK’s Today’s Golfer magazine for the last two years, while it is also the overseas training base of the Lawn Tennis Association until 2016.

La Manga Club boasts unrivalled facilities as a sports and leisure destination including three 18-hole championship golf courses, a 28-court tennis centre and a 2,000sqm spa and fitness centre. It also offers the choice of a five-star hotel, four-star serviced apartments and townhouses, and more than 20 bars and restaurants.
