Carus Green golf club raise £1,750 for the Multiple Sclerosis Society

Carus Green Golf Club has raised £1,750 for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Pro-active club President, Alan Farnsworth, organised two fundraising events at the club, with all proceeds going to fund further research into the condition. The first event – a golf day – attracted 141 members from across the men’s, women’s and junior sections, with £500 raised from entry fees and a wide range of prizes and goody bags keeping competitors happy.

The second event was an evening hosted by local band ‘Comedy Show Time’, comprising five artistes who perform together, and who offered their time for free. Their show, ‘an evening of music and laughter’, is a series of comedy sketches and music. The group, who have performed together for more than six years, do so on an entirely voluntary basis and have raised more than £35,000 for various charities during that time. 130 members and non-members attended the charity evening at Carus, with £1,250 raised from tickets sales, a raffle and auction. Local businesses gave generously, with donations made by the Castle Green Hotel in Kendal, English Lake Hotels and the New Moon restaurant in Kendal.

Mr Farnsworth, whose daughter suffers from Multiple Sclerosis, is delighted that so much has been raised for such a worthwhile organisation: “The fundraising events went extremely well, a good sum of money was raised and most importantly, people had fun!” he said. “I should very much like to thank Carus’ owner, Graham Curtin, whose kindness enabled me to hold these events at the club, all those who donated prizes and Elaine Burke from Comedy Show Time, for entertaining us so well, at no cost. I am very grateful indeed.”

‘Comedy Show Time’ will be performing at Carus Green on 27 January 2017, in aid of Sandgate Hydrotherapy Pool in Kendal. For further information and to book tickets, please call 015397 21097.
