Brindley helps Moor Hall into SkyCaddie PGA Pro-Captain Challenge final

Dentist Paul Brindley crowned a memorable year for Moor Hall Golf Club by helping them to the SkyCaddie PGA Pro-Captain Challenge final.

The Sutton Coldfield club’s captain teamed up with PGA professional Cameron Clark to win the North qualifying event at Cheshire’s Dunham Forest Golf Club by one point after carding a 10 under par round.

It is a busy time for Clark who is vice captain – along with Martyn Thompson – for the upcoming Great Britain & Ireland vs USA PGA Cup event at Foxhills Club & Resort in Surrey.

But he found time to fit the PGA Pro-Captain Challenge into his schedule. And it was worth it as the Midlands duo will now head to Morocco for the £22,000 final, in association with Golfplan, which will be held between November 21-22 at Mazagan Beach Resort, Casablanca.

“Cameron hasn’t played much this year, but he was brilliant, we had a couple of birdies lip out and it could’ve been even better, it was a fair score, not a lucky one,” said 14-handicapper Brindley, aged 60, who has been a member at Moor Hall for 36 years.

“I was there when I needed to be. And I’ll be going down to Foxhills to watch the PGA Cup which Cameron is very busy with in his role as vice captain. This was the only qualifier which we could both fit in which is why we played at Dunham Forest. It’s a fabulous end to my year as captain.”

Clark admitted the victory was a bonus in among his PGA Cup preparations. He was part of the victorious team that won at CordeValle in 2015 and is now focused on this year’s event.

But this Pro-Captain Challenge victory meant a lot to him. “We were thrilled to win at Dunham Forest, it was a great venue, I did most of the damage with nine birdies, but Paul was there as back up,” he said.

“I’ve always tried to support any of the national events run by the PGA. It was a no-brainer for me, a great day out with the captain – but I’ve never made it to the final before. I’ll be a nice end to the year which I’m sure will be very much a memorable one.”
